I am admittedly skincare-obsessed. From serums to moisturizers to masks, I love all-things skincare, and I love trying new products. Taking care of my skin is probably the number one thing I consistently do for myself, regardless of how busy or hectic life gets. Not only does it help me feel and look my best, but I know it’ll be well worth the investment down the road as I get older and my skin continues to age.
The key to establishing an effective skincare routine is to find products that you really love and that make a difference for your specific skin type. My skin tends to be on the oily side, and since moving to Alabama this past summer, I’ve had to adjust the products I use in both my morning and evening skincare routines to account for the effects the humid weather has on my skin. The products in my current routine are the ones that are giving me the best results right now, and although it may seem like a lot of steps, from start to finish it really only takes about five minutes 🙂
Here’s a breakdown of the products I use every morning:
// MORNING ROUTINE //
Step 1 / Cleanser
Dr. Andrew Weil For Origins Mega-Bright Skin Illuminating Cleanser
I start by washing my face with a mild cleanser. I’m on my second bottle of this one – it’s perfect for a.m. cleansing because it’s gentle yet effective at removing any oil that’s built up on my skin overnight. It also has a light scent that’s not too strong first thing in the morning.
Step 2 / Toner
Pixi Skintreats Glow Tonic
Next, I apply toner to balance my skin. This one by Pixi is my current favorite and really does make my skin glow. The first couple times I used it, I experienced some mild stinging as my skin got used to the glycolic acid in it. Now my skin has adjusted and I use it every morning after cleansing.
Step 3 / Serum
Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum
I recently started using a vitamin C serum, and I’m hooked. This one by Drunk Elephant is definitely a splurge, but the results I’ve seen make it worth it. I apply it after my toner dries by lightly pressing it into my skin. It’s helped fade some of the hyperpigmentation I had from old breakouts, and my skin tone appears noticeably more even since I’ve started using it. Vitamin C is also rich in antioxidants, so it protects against premature aging.
Step 4 / Moisturizer
Origins A Perfect World SPF 40 Age-Defense Moisturizer with White Tea
Next comes my moisturizer. I love this one because it contains SPF 40 – which means I don’t have to take an extra step to apply sunscreen. Some moisturizers that contain SPF can feel greasy or sticky, but this one is the perfect consistency and sinks into my skin fairly quickly.
Step 5 / Eye Serum
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG
Finally, I apply an eye serum. This one by The Ordinary contains caffeine, which is perfect for mornings when I wake up with tired, puffy eyes. I tap a small amount onto my entire eye area and it helps calm and tighten my skin.
// EXTRAS //
PoreDermabrasion™ Pore Perfecting Exfoliator
I like to exfoliate my face a few times a week to keep my skin as smooth as possible. Lately I’ve been loving this scrub by Dr. Brandt. The exfoliator beads are very fine, so I don’t have to worry about it being too rough on my skin. It also contains salicylic acid, which helps unclog my pores.
Basic Cotton Rounds
These cotton rounds are my favorite for applying toner. They don’t shed on my face like some other brands I’ve tried, and they’re super inexpensive. Target for the win!
