Happy Monday, friends! I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to take on the week! If you follow me on Instagram stories, you know I love to share different ways to style pieces based on the occasion. Well, today I’m sharing different ways you can style pieces based on the weather!
Being from Chicago, I’m used to freezing temps during the winter months. Now that we’re in Alabama, the weather this time of year is much warmer than the Midwest – but we do still get our share of cold days, too. I recently got some pieces that I’ve been styling differently based on what the weather is like each day, so I thought I’d show you how I style them differently for winter and spring. Check out my ideas below for styling the same piece two different ways depending on the season!
Chenille Cardigan | Winter look
This chenille kimono-style cardigan is lightweight yet cozy, making it the perfect addition to a long-sleeve tee and a pair of over-the-knee boots on a chilly day. It would also look great with a lightweight turtleneck underneath!
Chenille Cardigan | Spring look
Since this cardigan has short sleeves, it transitions well into warmer weather. Here I paired it with a white tank and some white distressed denim, creating a lighter look for spring. White denim is a staple in my closet during spring! I also swapped out the boots for a pair of tan mules.
Crew Neck Sweater | Winter look
This sweater is a favorite of mine because of how warm and cozy it is. I had a similar turtleneck-style one that I wore all winter long, so I was excited to find this crew neck-style option. The sweater also has deep slits on each side, making it ideal to wear with high-waisted pants. Here I paired it with my favorite faux leather leggings and heeled booties for a cold-weather look.
Crew Neck Sweater | Spring look
If spring was a color, it would be the color of this sweater. That’s why even though it’s a heavier material, this sweater works perfectly as a spring transition piece. To make the outfit more warm weather-appropriate, I rolled up the sleeves and paired it with some light-colored jeggings and mules. Mules are one of my favorite shoes for spring because they give just the right amount of coverage when you don’t want your feet to be completely covered, but you aren’t quite ready to commit to sandals yet.
Off the shoulder sweater | Winter look
This off the shoulder sweater is a heavier material, and when paired with a scarf to cover the exposed shoulder, it works well as a winter piece. I paired it with a pair of denim (any color works, but I went with white) and over-the-knee boots.
Off the shoulder sweater | Spring look
The structure and color of this sweater make it a perfect spring piece. I created a casual spring look by pairing it with cropped black leggings and comfortable tennis shoes. This sweater would also look great front-tucked into some denim cut-offs once the weather gets warm enough!
I hope these looks help inspire you to transition some of your existing pieces from winter to spring! If you follow any of these tips, I’d love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sarahmarotta_
